Instruction Manager Position Available - Henderson Location

We’re a rock climbing gym looking for an instruction manager for our Henderson gym, but what we really want are people who recognize that stepping into our communities has the power to change lives.

As a manager, you will be setting your team’s expectations and holding them accountable to the company’s values. You will be the face of our gyms and be working in a team-centered, dynamic environment.

Experience in climbing is a requirement, and above all else you need to have a strong desire to be part of The Pad community. We don’t care how hard you climb, but you should have enough experience to speak the lingo, make safety calls (or know who to defer to) and feel confident in training belay certification. Experience climbing outside is a major plus – we’re a gym run by people who climb outside and we like the culture that brings. Upon hire, managers will be required to follow through with training expectations and lead their teams with enthusiasm.

Here is a typical workload:

  • Audit instructors to ensure all safety policies are being followed and curriculum is consistent
  • Help clean and break down of any equipment used for activities as well as generally helping keep the gym clean and organized
  • Schedule instructors to ensure proper coverage of all classes and practices
  • Schedule instructors to conduct safety inspections on all gym equipment
  • Continually conduct safety checks with your team while keeping a continuous, organized report
  • Create and update Google check forms as required
  • Have supplies and gear ordered as needed
  • Replace any and all gear that is no longer in a safe and working condition
  • Work with instructor and safety staff to update and create new ideas for team curriculum to keep practices fun and engaging for participants
  • Meet with gym leaders to discuss any ideas, issues, and improvement ideas and step in to help with other departments as needed
  • Answer intergym email correspondence as well as address member or guest concerns
  • Perform basic sales and computer software operations
  • Step in as needed to cover any gaps in scheduling or absences
  • Maintain inventory of first aid supplies, climbing equipment and conduct inspections
  • Execute belay and lead tests as needed

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Hire, train, terminate and most importantly develop instructors and safety team members into world-class mentors and teachers
  • Ensure the monthly budgets set by Headquarters is being followed and fulfills the needs of staff, gym, and community
  • Ensuring the class review forms are filled out, reviewing them, and passing them along to your supervisor
  • Handle member and guest concerns outside of normal business, ensure instructors follows up with clients on the following topics: scheduling classes, special events, new member meetups and relevant administrative items, as well as any concerns that class participants may have
  • Maintain safe practices in facility and keep classes at the gym organized and productive
  • Ensure all instruction interest requests have been responded to within a reasonable timeframe, schedule instructors as needed based on the needs of the business
  • Collaborate with team members on ways to schedule, organize and develop programs, including curriculum and safety procedures, to fit the needs of the gym
  • Implement programs as determined by Headquarters, improving the course work and your teaching ability through feedback with youth families and your supervisor
  • Regularly schedule check-ins with team members and help them lead to the best of their ability
  • Serve as gym leadership and work in a collaborative environment to uphold the company mission and set an example for other staff
  • Act as a representative of the community and make a genuine effort to get to know and support members and fellow employees
  • Confidently communicate with supervisors and peers about gym and your own needs, improvements, and goals

    • Auto-Belays
    • Lead ropes
    • Top ropes
    • Medical Supplies
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Emergency exit signs
    • Instruction and Youth Team gear
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in climbing instruction
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven leadership experience in any field
  • Genuine interest in other people’s experiences
  • Desire to work with young children and their parents/caregivers
  • Communicate clearly with peers and the community
  • Experience with speaking to or working in a dynamic environment
  • Confidence in standing up to strangers and those you care about when it comes to following rules and upholding the values of the company
  • Able to tie knots and move across uneven surfaces and stairways
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Work as a member of a team, you will interact with other crew members as well as other department teams
  • Lover of learning and a deep interest in improving things for those around them
  • Friendly, enthusiastic attitude, can exhibit warmth and empathy
  • Tech savvy enough to use and apply a wide variety of applications, including Word, Google Drive, Gmail, and Asana
  • Actively seek new opportunities to improve self and the community at large
  • Uphold company values and use the mission statement to guide decisions
